[July. THE FARMERS DOG. The true farmers dog is a Collie. Heis, when properly bred and trained,worth a half dozen hands in handlingsheep and stock generally. We have seen a shepherd with twodogs round up and hold a flock ofhundreds of sheep on the wild, un-fenced moorlands of the north of Eng-land, and then pass them through asmall opening between two short lengthsof hurdles and count them without theassistance of another man, and all thisdone by the dogs without harassing orchasing the sheep. The dogs and sheepare on the best terms with each other, allseemingly enjoying the round up. We produce herewith a picture of oneof the handsomest dogs of this breed inthe country, the imported GeneralFrench, owned by the MaplemontStock Farm, whose advertisement willbe found in our columns.
