Osteoporosis. Artwork of a silhouetted elderly woman stooped due to osteoporosis and fractures associated with the condition. It develops due to the loss of bony tissue, which in turn can lead to bones becoming brittle and therefore more liable to break. Common fracture sites include the femur (lower left) above the wrist (centre left) and the vertebrae (upper left), which can lead to stooping (kyphosis). Osteoporosis affects mostly elderly people, developing as a part of the aging processes. Women, especially after the menopause, are more susceptible than men, which is attributed to the decline in ovarian hormone production.
