Earthworm, SEM

Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of an earthworm (subclass Oligochaeta) from soil in the northern Black Forest, Germany. Earthworms are annelid worms that inhabit soil, feeding on organic material. They are highly beneficial as their movement aerates the soil, while their feeding and excretion recycle nutrients and minerals. Magnification: x800 when printed at 15cm wide.
