The spines (fig. 126) vary greatly in length and' shape but are always of a stout form; they may be slightly flattened, lanceolate, or even spathulate, but are always arranged so that the narrow edges only are seen when viewed from the direction of the fundus of the test. The aperture varies in shape from narrowly to broadly oval.
