Robinson & Co.^ Inc. 2 Winthrop Square :: 32 Otis St. BOSTON, MASS. ited the Arnold Arboretum to view the grand display of lilacs. The plants are extra well flowered this year and have escaped late frosts. The flowers will be at their best from May 18 to May 24. The collection of ornamental malus was at its best May 14. The sweet-scented Viburnum Carlesii, as usual, came in for much favorable notice. Albert C. Burrafje and one or two others from Boston and vicinity left Sunday, May 14, to attend the hearing on quarantine .37 at Washington the fol- lowing day. About everyone here hopes for a safe and sane modification of the quarantine, which at present is an al- most complete embargo on plant im- ports. There was some agitation at ^Mothers' day against "jirofiteering florists", and one of the Boston journals advised peo- ple to boycott carnations and wear dan- delions instead, as a ]irotest. Its advice seemed to be little heeded, however, for, while I saw hundreds of people wearing carnations or roses, I failed to see a dandelion in anyone's buttonhole. There has been, however, much severe criti- cising of prices asked for carnations at retail. Saturday, May 13, 40 cents and 50 cents each
