DKW NZ 350-1 motorcycle as used by the German Army in WW2
DKW NZ 350 revolutionary pressed steel mainframe & 4 speed gearbox. The rigid rear end was readopted after decisons not to pay Bellini royalties to use their suspension rig - a few hundred models with rear suspension were produced. From 1941 the NZ350 was built exclusively for the Wehrmacht with a reinforced gearbox and gear-ratio altered to facilitate low speed driving in convoy formation - these gearboxes carry the letters 'VG' for 'verstaerktes Getreibe' on the engine case. The Wehrmacht number was NZ350-1. Produced overall from 1938 to 1943 it was an air cooled 346cc single cylinder 2-stroke machine developing @ 4000 revs, with Bing carburettor (& other variants) and 6v electrics. DKW - Dampf-Kraft-Wagen is a predessor of todays Audi & member of the 1932 Auto Union. During the late 1920s up to WW2 DKW was the worlds largest manufacturer of motorcycles. This is the DKW NZ 350-1 - there are no aluminium covers on the side of the cylinder head.
