Porto is the second city of Portugal after Lisbon. Located on the estuary of the Douro River in Northern Portugal, it is one of the oldest populated centres in Europe. Its historical core was proclaimed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996. Porto has many churches, but here we see its oldest. The Cathedral was constructed in Romanesque style from 1110, and completed two centuries later. Subsequent additions included both Gothic and Baroque contributions, resulting in the rather heterogeneous architectural mix seen today.
