Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Paecilomyces variotii fruiting body and ascospore formation. This fungus is commonly found in soil or dust and is allergenic. Paecilomyces variotii is thermophilic and can grow at temperatures up to 50 degrees centigrade. It is linked to humidifier associated illnesses and wood trimmers disease. It can cause the disease called paecilomycosis. Some Paecilomyces spp. can cause pneumonia. Magnification: x600 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
