In addition to the Pastors of Aachen, two branches of thePastorius family were prominent in Germany in the seventeenthcentury, one in Silesia and the other in Westphalia, Thuringiaand Franconia. It is to the latter branch that Francis DanielPastorius belonged. The Silesian branch of the family is represented in the sev-enteenth century by Joachim Pastorius, who was born at Glogauin Silesia, Sept. 20, 1611,- and died at Frauenberg in Prussia,Dec. 26, 1681. He was the son of a parson and was rearedin the doctrines of Socinus. He was a Doctor medicinae anddistinguished for his writings on Polish history. Joachim Pastorius was made Stadtphysicus of Elbingand in 1651
