Douglas Shearer, Canadian-born pioneer sound designer and director, 1933. The brother of the Hollywood film star Norma Shearer, Douglas Shearer (1899-1971) played a key role in the advancement of sound technology for motion pictures. Over the course of his career he won no less than 14 Academy Awards for sound and special effects.
