Queen Victoria (1819-1901), British monarch. Victoria ruled the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 20 June 1837 until her death. She was also Empress of India from 1876. Victoria became queen at the age of eighteen. In 1840 she married her first cousin Albert. He organised the Great Exhibition of 1851, in which artistic and scientific artefacts from around the world were displayed in London, England. The Science Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum were later founded in London to house these items. Queen Victoria's 63 year reign is the longest in British history.
