Coast Guardsman Kenneth Quick of Flint, Mich., received shrapnel wounds in the shoulder when German bombers attacked the Coast Guard-manned transport off Gela, Sicily, but he still looks cheerful. Quick was on the signal bridge when the JU-88s attacked the transport carrying soldiers.
