Gravestones lie inside the Spann cemetery in the city of Ashton, Union Island. Carriacou Island is located 4-5 miles off the coast of Union Island. Union Island is part of the nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Union Island has a French and British colonial history with a current population of about 3,000 people. The semi-arid volcanic island lies approximately 40 miles south of St. Vincent island.
