Mio, Michigan - Bird watchers photograph the rare Kirtland's warbler in the jack pine forest of northern Michigan. The bird is endangered because of habitat loss and predation from brown-headed cowbirds. Access to areas where the Kirtland's warbler nests are closed to the public during nesting season except through tours led by Forest Service personnel. (The warbler is below and slightly to the right of the larger Mourning Dove in the snag at center.)
