Mechanics in every line, and even common laborers, were paid wages that were fabulous. Everyone had money, except, perhaps, those who were always looked upon as the natural flower buyers. The result was that there was a large class of people throughout the country who had become suddenly wealthy in their own estimation. They had more money in their possession than they had ever had before, with another pay day only a short way off. They were in a position to indulge in luxuries and they did it. Jewelry, silk shirts and the most costly kinds of wearing apparel were freely purchased. Men who formerly could not afford to pay car fare rode to their work in auto- mobiles. They were just looking for new ways to spend their money. At this time "Say It with Flowers" was to be seen everywhere, and they nat- urally acquired the habit of doing just what the slogan suggested.
