O oc 404 Los Angeles Terminal Inxestigation During the year over 864,000 freight cars were handled by the steamrailroads in and out of Los Angeles; an average of about 2400 per these, two-thirds were loaded cars and one-third empties. If we usethe same ratio of loads and empties for the Pacific Electric it will be seenthat including this electric line, there are handled in and out of Los Angeles,approximately freight cars per year, or about 2,850 per day. Asa matter of comparison, we note that in 1912 the twenty-one operatingrailroads at Chicago received and forwarded approximately 15,000,000 carsor about fifteen times as many as are handled at Los Angeles.
