Philo Dorwin was born in New Haven, Vermont, and remain-ed in his native state till he was grown. He enlisted in the warof 1812, and was a part of the army that defeated the British in thebattle of Plattsburg,on Lake Champlain. Leaving Vermont,he wentinto business at Syracuse, New York, and afterwards at Philadel-phia and Chicago. He was in business at the latter place when it wasbut a small village. He moved to Logan county from Troy, Ohio,and came to Bellefontaine in 1852. He united with the Congrega-tional church in 1823, and became a member of the First Presby-terian church, of Bellefontaine, and Superintendent of our Sab-bath-school soon after coming to our city. He was a member ofthe choir for many years, having a fine voice and being a gentle-man of good musical education and much talent. He died at his home in October 6, 1870, aged 73 OFFICERS OF THE SUNDAY-SCHOOI^. 99 years, 2 months and 21 days. He was a man of kindly disposition,
