Placebo effect in knee surgery. Artwork of surgical tools and equipment being used not to carry out an operation, but to produce a placebo effect. This was documented in a study where a proportion of patients had conventional arthroscopic knee surgeries carried out, while the rest were fooled into thinking that surgery had taken place. The results showed that the effects of the surgical interventions were no better than those who had the 'placebo' procedure.
