In addition to the fore-going, the paymaster (lieutenant-commander) has beenattached to the ships New Hampshire, Wabash, andSt. Louis, upon the latter of which he is now has also been attached to the Norfolk and LeagueIsland navy-yards. In 1885 he married Adelaide Granet ;their two daughters, Adelaide Henriette and Lydia Mus-grave, are both living. 2o6 OFFICERS OF THE ARMY AND NA VY (volunteer). FIRST LIEUTENANT JOHN F. CONAWAY, First Lieutenant John F. Conaway was born in thecity of Philadelphia, September 27, 1840, and grad-uated from the Central High School in that city in July,1857. On August 13, 1862, he enlisted as a privatein the Fifteenth Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry, aregiment raised from various counties in the State, andcomposed almost entirely of well-educated young was mustered into the service of the United Stateson the 22d of August, 1862, for three years, and onOctober 30 of same year was appointed corporal of Com-pany E. On the reorganization of the regiment, after the battleof Murfreesborough, he was transferred to Company 1as one of its sergeants, March 1, 1863, and on July 23of same year was promoted to be first sergeant of thecompany. On January 21, 1865, he was made sergeant-major of the regiment, and on March 13, 1865, he wascommissioned first lieutenant of Company B, havingfilled all the grades of non-commissioned officers to theentire
