A portrait head of the comic poet Menander - a fine marble sculpture from the 19th century patterned after an ancient model Made after an Early Hellenistic portrait passed on by Roman copies, but with striking psychologising facial features which bear strong similarity to a version from Venice. Comparatively narrow head with deep set eyes and distinctive forehead creases and wrinkles. The arrangement of curls typical for Menander portrayals.
