Here he married Hannah Stroud(born October 10, 1763), and she bore him burg, Pa. When nineteen years of age heleft home and came to Wayne County, made ahome at Stockport, and bought timber from thePrestous, which he rafted down the Delawareto Philadelphia. Thus commencing a career asa lumberman, he continued to follow such busi-ness until 1854 very successfully. On Septem-ber 26, 1S24, he married Elizabeth Barrager,near Stockport, and purchased farm and timberlauds in what is now Preston township, then. <=Js n^tsisn_ Qy/Lcuy-ins^cL Jacob, John, Elizabeth, William, Daniel, Peterand Franklin. He was a man of considerable education, andiu possession of his grandson Irvin is a book of good size, evidently preparedfor the use of his children, full of valuablerules, examples, etc. He was engaged in farm-ing until his death, December 14, 1839, hiswife surviving him until May 4, 1845. Wil-liam Starbird, the fourth child of John andHannah, was born May 27, 1798, at Strouds- Buckingham. At one time he owned seven-teen huudred acres of land, in a solid piece, inthe township, when no roads had been cutthrough the vast pine wilderness, and the trackwas traceable only by blazed trees. Here heformed a home and raised a large family ofthirteen children, as follows: Ransom, Horace,Emeline V., George, Alfred O, Benjamin F.,Edwin, Ann, John Q., William P., Irvin,Henry O, Caroline A.
