CULTURE.—These are even more sensitive to cold and wet than the dwarf varieties, but are of superior quality and productiveness. After settled warm weather, set poles eight feet long in rows four feet apart, the poles being three feet apart in the row. Around each hill plant five to eight beans two inches deep. Don't worry about getting the "eyes" down; they will grow just as well lying flat, unless the weather should be very wet. When well started, thin to four plants and start any that fail to climb around the pole in the same direction as the others, for they will not grow if tied up in the opposite direction. GREEN POD. Horticultural, or Speckled Cranberry. —Equally good as a snap short, or as a shelled bean in either green or dry state.
