Gist. The Renovo Record.—On Dec. 21,1871, JohnU. Shaffer issued the first number of the RenovoRecord, a weekly sheet of twenty-eight columns, andin April, 1882, enlarged it to thirty-two columns. Asuperior job-printing ofiice is attached, and the busi-ness office and press-rooms are the best evidence ofthe success and systematic order by which the paperand business is conducted, the area of the ofiice beingtwenty-five by twenty-five feet. It is specially devoted to local news andthe interests of Renovo. It is published Thursdaysat its establishment in Erie Avenue, between Thirdand Fourth Streets. Its editor, John U. Shaffer, wasborn in McConnellsburg, Mnrch 27, 1843. After ob-taining a common-school education he was appren-ticed to the printing business under Col. W. W. Sel-lers, of the Fulton Republican. In the winter of 1860he became its local editor and business manageruntil December, 1861, when he became connectedwith the Plttsburfjh Evening Chronicle and Johnsonsjob-printing establishment. In January, 1862, hereturned to McConnellsburg, Fulton Co., and in thefollowing month formed a partnership with Henry in the publication of the Fulton Democrat. InDecember, 1863, he married Mis
