They fit very well in a rotation with cereal crops to provide a break in disease cycles, to assist in weed control, to improve soil fertility and to help spread the workload over the crop production ; The specialist says variety testing of pulse crops includes about five main types of dry beans, several field pea varieties, lentils, faba beans, other legumes such as lathyrus, lupins and chickpeas.
