Then a notary,Vannerus by name, took possession, and as he actedfor Schmittbourg at Bourscheid we may be sure hedid not regard the historic building, or what was leftof it, with any degree of reverence. And now Time,slowly but so surely, plays the vandals part, and manappears to have given up the task of preservation. Higher up, on the other peak, is the Oost Thurm,. Little wonder that Victor Hugocalled this peaceful vale the pearl of the northcountry and that it stirred the soul of Liszt.
