Grey sky view, towards American Embassy and Reichstag Building, low concrete stelae at Holocaust Memorial, Ebertstrasse, Berlin
The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe is a 12,000 square metres site covered with 2711 concrete slabs or stelae, forming a grid pattern on an uneven ground surface. The stelae are are m (7ft 10 ins) long and m (3ft 1 ins) wide. They vary in height from to (8 ins to 15ft 9 ins). The Memorial was built April 2003 to December 2004, at a cost of 25 million euros, and inaugurated 10 May 2005, the 60th anniversary of the end of World War 2 in Europe. A view towards the Embassy of the United States (built 2008) and the Reichstag Building.
