These specimens averageabout an inch in length, of body proper, ajid were obtained al)out 16miles west of the Coronados Islands in 75 fathoms of water. One ofthese specimens is shown in the accompanying figure (fig. 14). Including the above-mentioned specimens, the Albacore had taken,up to the time of the writers return from (California, some fourteenlots of large and intermediate sized phyllosomes, and another rare stage. Large |ili_\ llusomc, an hereto fore umliscovercil larvalform of the spiny lobster. known as the puerulus. Some of these lots contained numerous indi-viduals. The puerulus is the stage intermediate between the pyhllo-some, the form in which the lobster is hatched from the egg, and thedefinitive form of the adult. These collections were well distributedthrough the southern California waters ranging as far as 150 miles offshore and to a maximum depth of 75 fathoms. This is a rather sur-I)rising range for such a well known littoral form. So far as a preliminary of the material taken by the■Albacore together with that obtained from the Seri|)ps Institutiongoes, it appears that the early life history of the California spiny lobsterIS in a fair way of solution. A full report of the results of the summerswork is in i)reparation. 26 CALIFORNIA FISH AND GAME. THE COYOTE AS A DEER KILLER. By E. V. JOTTER. Although we have long known the coyote as a pr
