At the headof Wolfe Island lies Horse Shoe Island—between the two are many rocky shoals where earlyfly-fishing for bass cannot be equalled on the St. Lawrence. The many bays along the islandcast of Marysville afford abundant opportunity for sport in trolling for pickerel, pike,muskallonge and other gamy fish. Resuming our journey northward from Watertown, a run of ten miles, passing SanfordsCorners, brings us to Evans Mills, a pleasant village within three miles of the celebratedLeRay mansion (erected in 1809), where President Madison was once hospitably entertained.
