Jeff Moore- Over 11,886 patients, including 1898 hedgehogs, have been treated by dedicated staff at Tiggywinkles hospital in Buckinghamshire this year. The world’s busiest wildlife hospital dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating British wildlife has given treatment to over 300,000 patients over the past 40 years. This years casualties include a striking Barn Owl with an injured leg, a hedgehog that got stuck on a glue trap, a toad stuck in a watering can, a pipistrelle bat that had his broken wing pinned with a tiny needle and a rare Death-Head Hawk moth made famous by the 1991 Silence Of The Lambs film. The hospital is open 24/7, 365 days to care for all sick, injured and orphaned wildlife and relies on public donations, as it receives no government or lottery funding. All wild animal casualties brought to the hospital are treated completely free of charge and are released through a controlled programme, back to the wild, when they are fully fit.
