The loveley interior of the Italian Chapel On Lamb Holm Island in Orkney North of Scotland belies its humble beginning as a World War 2 Nissen Hut

The beautiful interior of the Italian Chapel On small Lamb Holm Island in Orkney north of Scotland belies its humble beginning as a World War Two Nissen hut. This chapel was converted by Italian prisoners of war chiefly under the guidance of Domenico Chiocchetti a skilled artist. The prisoners were camped in Orkney to build the Churchill Barriers linking the South Eastern islands to the Orkney mainland, thus creating a defensive barrier to the strategic harbor of Scapa Flow.
