An acre of level turf, such as that in therear of the club house, is an unfailingtemptation to outdoor sports, such aslawn tennis, bowls, croquet and for all these games were pro-cured in 1882 and they were all played,not perhaps regularly or at first veryskillfully. At this time the summersports were open indiscriminately to allmembers, who should pay a small extrafee. As the taste for these pastimesgrew among the club members, therearose a desire for organization and thencame also a wish to excel.
