Dumbarton Rock, Dumbarton Castle and the River Clyde.

Dumbarton Castle, perched on Dumbarton Rock at the confluence of the rivers Leven and Clyde. Seat of the ancient Britons under Coroticus in the 5th Century AD and sacked by Vikings under Olaf in 869, the rock was also known as Dun Breatann (Rock of the Britons) and Alt Clut (Rock of the Clyde). The massive bulk of Ben Lomond, most southerly of the Munros, forms a rugged backdrop.
