He was reared in Worcester town-ship, where he attended the public schoolsand then taught some time, after which heentered Washington Hall Collegiate insti-tute at Trappe, and took the course of thateducational institution. Leaving Trappe,he entered Eastmans Business college atPoughkeepsie, New York, from which wellknown commercial institution he was grad-uated at the end of only thirteen weeksstudy. He then became book-keeper inthe Philadelphia office of the Grover &Baker Sewing Machine company, and re-mained there up to 1866. In that year heconcluded to resume teaching, in which hehas been successful and in which he hadalways taken a deep interest. He thereforetaught one year at Jenkintowu, and thenconcluded to put in operation his longcherished design of opening a first classacademy and connecting it with a practicaland efficient business school. After four yearsof successful teaching, he removed in April,1871, to North Wales as a more favorablecenter for the full development of his idea,and founded the North Wales academy andschool of business. Each succeeding yearhas added to its efficiency and the numberof pupils in attendance, until to-day itstands as one of the foremost institutions ofits kind in the State. Professor Brunneralso publishes a paper in connection withhis institution called The Academy Acorn,which is devoted to school life and the gen-eral improvement of the pupils.
