In 1980, Hesketh Out Marsh was turned into farmland by the previous owner who built high banks to keep the tides out. The new habitat at this reserve has attracted many birds including whooper swans, teals, redshanks, avocets, skylarks and hen harriers. Other wildlife that has made this beautiful area its home are brown hares, sticklebacks, flounders and sea bass as well as many wildflowers.
