"The Lanterns of the Terracotta Warriors is a travelling art installation and features 40 brightly coloured, light up replicas of the famous Terracotta Army that guards the tomb of the first Emperor of China. The work was originally commissioned for the Beijing Olympics Games in 2008 and have already travelled the globe to Sydney, Zagreb, Prague and beyond. Now Manchester’s business improvement district initiative, the Heart of Manchester BID, is bringing them to the north west for the first time as part of the Chinese New Year celebrations in January 2017. The 40 warriors are exact copies of some of the 8,000 clay statues that surround the tomb in Xi'an and date from around 210BC. The installation will be the focal point of the new year celebrations which the BID says will be the biggest the city has ever seen and the largest outside London. It has been made possible by a partnership with FCAM (Federation of Chinese Associations of Manchester), Manchester City Council and Confucius Institute." Source Manchester Evening News.
