Andrae is a native of this city, liis birtli liaving liere occurred in April, was educated in tlie Milwauljee public and parochial schools, which he attended tothe age of sixteen, and then began working tor his father, Julius Andrae, who wasborn in Saxony, Germany, and who passed away in the year 1917. Julius Andrae cameto the United States in 1853 and settled in Milwaukee in 1855. In 1860 he founded whatis now the Julius Andrae & Sons Company and his son, Herman Andrae, became asso-ciated with him in the business. When the latter was twenty-one years of age he wassent east on a trip by his father to learn the rudiments of the electrical business,which was then in its initial period of development. He worked in Philadelphia, NewYork and Savannah, Georgia, for a period of two years, being in the employ of thepioneer electrical dealers and workers. After his return home he was associated w
