Astronaut preparing food. Astronaut Dominic Gorie on board the space shuttle Discovery (mission STS-91). He is preparing to add water to a rehydratable food packet. The Shuttle is on its way to dock with the Mir space station. This mission lasted from 2-12 June 1998. This was the last in a series of nine Shuttle-Mir unions. It was the only time that Discovery was used to link up with Mir . The purpose of the mission was to retrieve astronaut Andrew Thomas and return him to Earth. Gorie was joined on the mission by four astronauts, namely, Charles J. Precourt, Frankilin Chenz-Diaz, Wendy Lawrence and Janet Kavandi and cosmonaut Valeriy Ryumin.
