Cold water should be applied freely, in conjunction withthree or four hours pressure each day. A lotion composed oflead acetate, ounce one; zinc sulphate, drachms six; water, onequart, lias proven to be of great benefit, and should be used whileapplying pressure. Pressure can be applied by means of a band-age properly adjusted. Finally, stimulating applications shouldbe used, the best in this case being gum camphor, ounce one;,alcohol, a half pint; iodine tincture, one ounce, applied twice aday to the parts. Opening tbe bursa is advisable in some few cases, but shouldbe done as a last resort. Where it is thought advisable to opena bursa, it should be done by a veterinary surgeon. There is nodanger, however, in opening the bursa in connection with theextensor metacarpi magnus, constituting whatis termed cappedknee. This bursa may be punc-tured without any hesitation,and the fluid allowed to puncture should be made atthe lowest margin of the swell-ing, and upon its inner out the fluid and keep thewalls of the sac in apposition byapplying an antiseptic bandage should be rolledaround the knee from abovedownwards, and allowed to re-main without change for five orsix days, if no inconvenience iscaused to
