Hydrologic technician measures river flow from basket hanging over the Missouri River. Flow calculation verify station "gauge" height measurements.
River flow volume, cubic feet per second (cfs), is calculated from the station "gauge" height. Periodic measurement of the actual river flows verifies this calculation. The cable across the river is marked at fixed intervals, measuring the flow and height off the top and bottom of the water column at intervals gives the data needed to calculate actual total flow. Phil Karper said it would take about an hour to make all the measurements, Morony Dam, Missouri River, MT. (MR)
