Tree, 15-20 ft. high, with young growth scurfy-pubescent: fls. opposite the Ivs., greenish, and fragrant, the exterior petals ob- long-linear and keeled on the inner side, velvety : Ivs. ovate or oblong (about 3 in. long), obtuse or scarcely acute, dark green, and sparsely hairy above and velvety beneath ; fr. very large {from the size of a large apple to 8 in. or more in diam.), spherical or slightly flattened at the ends, nearly smooth, brownish yellow, sometimes with a red cheek, the flesh soft and rich. Peru and ad- jacent regions northward, but naturalized in Central America and Mexico, the West Indies and parts of the Old World. 2011. â It is a well-known fruit of the tropics, and it thrives upon the Florida keys and the adjacent coasts. It is also grown to a limited extent in southern California. Fruit will stand transportation if picked green. Possibly the plants sold as A. macrocdrpa and A. s^iavissima are forms of the Cherimoyer.
