New materials testing. Engineer testing a new composite material. A square section of a hollow glass fibre reinforced plastic element (yellow, lower centre) is being placed under loads and stresses. Sensors measure the deformations and changes in the properties of the materials. Such a lightweight material could replace concrete and timber.
