Sign placed by teachers and pupils saying Goodby Lewisham Bridge just before the children and teachers were bussed to New Cross. Lewisham Council are expecting children from Lewisham Bridge primary school to spend the next two years getting up early to be bussed from Lewisham to a temporary site in New Cross — and then back again at the end of the day. The transport arrangements are costing thousands of pounds a week. Traffic delays are inevitable. What will happen when the children are queuing for the buses in the cold and wet? It all means months of disruption and stress for staff, children and parents. Lewisham Council closed the school at Easter. It is bussing the children three miles away to another school, but its plan for a new 3-16 year old academy on the site - itself privatisation by the backdoor - is, however, in tatters.
