A large encolpion, Byzantium, 10th - 12th century AD. Bronze with fine greenish patina. The obverse with a relief of the crucified Christ, the cross arms bearing images of the Virgin Mary, St. John, and an engraved inscription. The reverse with the praying Christ surrounded by tondi depicting the four evangelists. Intact, slightly ridged suspension loop, unopened.
