Mentions taking a room at Mrs. Holt's boarding house at 168 Duane Street. Transcription: supping, talking with Mr [Joseph] Greatbatch, Joe [Greatbatch], and the boys [Fred and Edward Greatbatch]; then, Joe bearing me company to the Fulton Ferry, I crossed to Brooklyn. Met [William] Roberts on the Ferry-boat, he would that I should go home with him and have a cigar So an hour there fumigating and talking with him, wife, and two girls, cousin to [Warren] Butler. Roberts at work on a drawing of Alf Waud ?s sent on for him to engrave for [Frederick] Gleason. Roberts saith he thinketh that Gleason is losing money by his pictorial. / To Dunsiers; awhile with Mrs D, then Fagan came, and at about 10, turned in with him. Very little sleep all night, feeling abdominal dull, heavy, indigestible pains, barring repose. 30. Tuesday. Breakfast with them & Dunsier. Crossed to New York, to ?ǣTraveller ? Office, corrected proofs, to Roberts & with him to one Lock, in Beekman Street, who thinketh of getting up some Railroad Literature. Thence to Greene St. Mrs Pennoyer out. So went to the old crib in [168] Duane Street, saw Mrs [Mary] Holt, took a room, dined; out to [John N.] Genins, to [John B.] Holmes (he away at Flushing,) back; supped, and thence, after a talk with [William] Martin out with him, and leaving him at West Broadway, went to [174] Mulberry Street. There an hour with them, then back, Joe accompanying me, and helping me to carry small baggage ? good natured of him. Gave him three letters to copy, enlisting him in the great Gleason hoax. By this time the wretched Gleason hath the letters of Jerome de St Cyr & Voorhees, if not others. Bed about midnight. At Holt ?s again. Oh [unclear word] have mercy! Wish I could spend a week at Chacombe now, it would be like getting born over again. Very sick, very weary, very matagrabolized, and $10 in pocket. Never mind; ? shall kick through it. Wonder whether I ever shall have money? / Title: Thomas Butler Gunn Diaries: Volume 2,
