Cheetah sitting on rock mound, Etosha National Park, Namibia. The Cheetah (acinonyx jubatus) is a typical member of the cat family that is unique in its speed, as such it is placed in its own genus Acinonyx. It is the fastest land animal, reaching speeds between 112 kilometres per hour (70MPH) and 120 kilometres per hour (75mph) in short bursts covering distances up to 68mph in three seconds-faster than most supercars.
