Frons a little broader than in the male, piinctate, with-out or with slight cross-furrows; also a slight middle channel mav bepresent or wanting, or this space niay even be a little æ with the third joint longer. Abdomen generally bluish orviolet on the disc. Legs generally with the tarsi, especially the hindones, darker. Length 5—6,6 mm; a single male only reaches 4,8 Fig. 52. L. splendida is rather rare in Denmark and nmch rarer thanmetallina; Lersø, Ordrup Mose, Lyngby Mose, Ørholm and on Lollandin Kældskov; the dates are V«—^^/e. It occurs on the same localitiesas metallina. Geographical distribution:— Europe down into Italy, and in AsiaMinor; towards the north to middle Sweden. IIL Chrysogaster Meig. s. str. Eyes touching in the male, the facets in the upper half enlarged,and there is a more or less distinct dividing line between the largeand small facets. Frons arched and considerably puffed out; epistomain the male as a rule with a more or less distinct central knob, butsometimes not (f. inst. splendens and insignis bolh non-Danish).
