One of five national refuges in RI, it was established in 1973 at Pettaquamscutt Cove. Can be hard to find, but migratory waterfowl rely on this place, it has a large population of black ducks. The 550 acres is a refuge for black ducks especially in winter. Tidal marshes here attract great egrets, herons, plovers and other shore birds. Also home to the Saltmarsh Sparrow. Fishing here but a bit of a walk, but can be reached by boats, kayaks etc. aka: The Narrows River
