A dangerous road
Amusingly, Google maps says that one can drive the 90km road from Akhmeta to Omali in just over two hours! In reality, 75 km or so of that mountainous road is considered one of the most dangerous in the world, accidents are frequent (admittedly as much due to an fatal indulgence in chacha - Georgian vodka - as to the state of the road itself, which is closed during the winter months anyway. On the roadside though, every kilometre or so, there are morbid markers indicating where people and whole families went over the top and plunged to their deaths. Paradoxically, family members come to mourn their dear departed on the accident site every year they drink more chacha in the memory of the dead as is evident from the number of empty bottles found lying in such the road itself though is unerringly beautiful.
