Robot volleyball. Professor Kevin Warwick with a robot at the world's first robot volleyball contest. Five universities entered teams of two autonomous robots for the contest. During the 5 minute games, the ball is rolled across the pitch from team to team, each having 60 seconds to hit it back. The robots use infrared communicators, motion sensors and programmable bricks from Lego Mindstorms, as well as ball-locating ultrasound sensors. In addition to organizing the contest, Prof. Warwick is leading the Reading University team. He is seen here with one of his robots.
