From the Berlin-MillsHouse a buckboard road leads nearly to the summit of Mount Aziscoos, thefinest mountain in all the Rangeley country, whose outspread panorama itcommands with superb AZISCOOS FALLS, MAGALLOWAV RI\ EK. Aziscoos Falls are miles by road from the mills; and here the secondsection of steam-navigation begins, and the swift and narrow Magalloway isascended for fifteen miles, to the Lower Mcttaluk Pond. For twelve milesabove this point the river traverses a succession of rich meadows, and maybe ascended by canoes. Then comes a portage path of four miles, leadingto Parmachenee Lake, solitary among the verdure-clad hills, whose only 72 inhabitants are bears and deer and the smaller children of the primevalforest. The public house is called Camp Caribou, and stands on a romanticisland near the head of the lake. Here sportsmen spend weeks of everysummer, 2,500 feet above the sea, and surrounded by the charms of Nature
